Nike first showed off its Nike Articulated Integrated Traction sole for golf shoes with the Nike Flyknit Elite. It has now used it on a second golf shoe, the upcoming Nike Lunar Control Vapor.

Pro golfer Rory McIlroy put the shoe through its paces in mid-August, on courses in the Bahamas. Firstly, he hit the driving range, and then played nine holes in the shoes. In that round he deliberately made shots from awkward lies, to test the shoe’s traction and stability.

“For as long as I can remember, I’ve played golf in spiked footwear, and up until two years ago those spikes were metal,” said McIlroy. “Through its drive to innovate and bring the sport to new places, Nike has created a new traction system that provides me with a stable base to push off the ground and deliver the distance I need off the tee.”

The Articulated Integrated Traction is the star of the shoe, but just as important for golfers the upper is made from a lightweight premium microfiber, to help keep the players’ feet dry. In fact the shoe has a 2-year waterproof guarantee.

“From the beginning, our goal was to help athletes perform at the highest level,” said Gentry Humphrey, VP Nike Golf Footwear. “Nike Articulated Integrated Traction’s geometry provides great traction on any surface and disperses stud pressure. Not having to place receptacles on the outsole means more room for extra foam underfoot to provide amazing cushioning.”
